Stretch Film
Stretch film is a very stretchable sheet of plastic that is supplied on a roll. The elastic recovery keeps items that it is wrapped around together and is often used in packaging to wrap cardboard boxes together on a pallet. This effectively palletises a load for easy and secure shipment.
The most common form of stretch film is LLDPE which stands for linear low density polyethylene. Many stretch films have a stretch capacity of 500% but are stretched from about 100% - 300% when used. Other properties of stretch film include breaking strength, cling, clarity, puncture resistance, tear resistance and static discharge which may also need to be considered.
Wrapping pallets with stretch film can produce the following effects: Dust and moisture protection Increased efficiency in handling and storage of unit loads Improved unit load stability of the products Tamper resistance and resistance to package pilferage which can be increased further by using black security stretch film
Stretch film can be used on hand dispensers for easy, controlled tension pallet wrapping or on machines for large volume dispensing. It is important not to apply too many layers or too much tension as the tension can damage the vertical edges of cardboard boxes and in turn significantly reduces stacking strength.
You can also use stretch film without a machine or hand dispensers by buying stretch film on an extended core. The extended core acts as a handle which you hold while the core spins as you wrap your pallet.
Black security stretch film is designed to conceal the contents of your pallet to protect valuable and sensitive contents. In strong 25 micron dense black film it reduces pilferage and provides additional security for confidential palletised loads.
